POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title:  Adult Services Coordinator                                    Department: Adult Services

Reports To: Library Director                                                          Employment Status: Part Time

Salary Grade: Subject to Education and Experience                    Salary Range: Set by Board of Trustees

Shift: (Normally) Weekdays During Regular Business Hours    

Purpose:

The Adult Services Coordinator is responsible for managing services provided to adult library patrons. The Adult Services Coordinator plans, develops, advertises, and oversees programs for adult patrons. The Adult Services Coordinator manages collection development procedures related to materials for the adult collection.

The Adult Services Coordinator is a customer-oriented position, and the employee is expected to assist patrons with all inquiries. The Adult Services Coordinator is appointed by the Library Director and works closely with the Library Director and staff of the Library. Employee is expected to exercise independent judgment in solving most problems that arise within the assigned work area.

 

Principle Duties:

  • Ensures the efficient, effective delivery of services and programs to adult patrons of the main and branch libraries.
  • Serves patrons in a courteous and business-like manner.
  • Assist patrons with research, questions, technology, and all other patron needs related to Library services.
  • Obtains speakers, handles public relations, and oversees the presentation of Library programs for adults.
  • Publicizes programs utilizing a variety of media including: radio, cable TV, newspapers, Library newsletter, Library website, Library social media sites, posters, and displays.
  • Plans and develops displays within the Library for decoration, information, and other purposes.
  • Assists with circulation department responsibilities including: performing activities at the circulation desk (i.e. check in/out materials, place holds for patrons, etc.), locating items on holds list, and packing/unpacking Interlibrary Loan items.
  • Attends workshops/conferences related to outreach and adult programming.
  • Selects and evaluates Library materials for the adult collection.
  • Maintains or assists with special files and/or indexes as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with Library policy and all applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Skilled in the use of modern office equipment and computer operation, including the Internet and Microsoft software.
  • Library experience desirable, but not required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate in writing and orally.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively listen and project positive interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate dependable work habits including attitude, initiative and attendance.
  • Ability to handle and defuse difficult situations involving patrons calmly and effectively.
  • Exercise discretion in handling sensitive inquiries.

 

Education/Certification/Demonstrated Skills Requirements:

  • Minimum education requirement is a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a library setting is preferred.
  • Fluency in the Spanish language is desired.
