New Luckey Branch Library Location Opening in 2022

Potential Exterior of Luckey Branch Library

After over thirty years of utilizing the building in downtown Luckey, the Luckey Branch Library will be moving to a new location in 2022! The Pemberville Public Library System purchased the Troy-Webster American Legion property in December 2020 for the future home of our Luckey Branch Library. The Library Board of Trustees and Library Staff spent 2021 working with Buehrer Group Architecture and Engineering to make plans for renovating the building. Renovations will be starting soon, and the goal is for renovations to be completed by late Summer 2022.

This new location will double the library's square footage and allow the library to offer more services. The new building will be renovated to provide improved ADA accessible doors and restrooms, as well as have a large Community Room that can be rented out by the community. Community members will be able to hold meetings and social events in the Community Room after business hours, which has not been possible in the current building downtown.

In order to address the changing needs of the communities we serve, the library is planning to have a MakerSpace area in the new building. The MakerSpace will provide access to technology and equipment that people may wish to use for hobbies or academic projects. Some of the technology the library is interested in purchasing for the MakerSpace include a 3D printer, a laser engraver and cutter, a Cricut, sewing machines, and a heat press. A Recording Room is also being planned. This Recording Room will allow students and adults to record and edit audiovisual material for presentations, projects, podcasts, job interviews, and much more. Since Luckey Branch Library is directly between the library's other two locations in Pemberville and Stony Ridge, having the MakerSpace and Recording Room in Luckey will make it easy and convenient for library users from all areas of the library’s service district to access these exciting new services.

Donating to the Luckey Branch Library

The library is currently seeking donations to help purchase the MakerSpace and Recording Room technology, as well as general donations to the renovation project. Donations may be made out to the Pemberville Public Library, with "New Luckey Branch Library" in the memo line, and mailed to PO Box 809, Pemberville, OH 43450. If an organization or individual is interested in sponsoring a specific piece of equipment, or has questions regarding donations, please contact Library Director Susan Titkemeier either by email at slang@seolibraries.org or by phone at 419-287-4012.

Will the American Legion Continue?

Some community members have expressed concern regarding the American Legion membership. The Troy-Webster American Legion Post and the Legion Auxiliary will continue to meet and operate, and the library will continue to be their home location. The Pemberville Public Library System is thankful to the Legionnaires for this opportunity to expand the Luckey Branch Library and offer new services to the public!
